(4th&5th Grade Teachers) Ecoliteracy at SFUSD: Taking MATH Outdoors!
 Description
These workshops will link CST Test math standards to easy outdoor investigations in your green schoolyard. Learn how schoolyard nature can help bring abstract math concepts to life with your students. Join K-3 Teachers on March, 13th, 2012,  and 4th&5th Grade Teachers on March 20th 2012.  During the workshops, learn lessons that align to common core Math standards, receive lessons, construct tools and materials for your students and network with your teaching community.  Learn how teaching outdoors enriches learning, and caters to diverse learning communties.   2 hours of UESF SFUSD compensation for attending :) $$.

B Cuadrado-Elementary School Spanish Bilingual/Biliteracy Pathway Teachers Equity Centered Professional Learning Community
 Description
English Learners Support Services (ELSS) is organizing an ECPLC of K-5  Spanish Bilingual/Biliteracy teachers to provide a forum where instructional issues can be addressed. The ECPLC will be composed of up to twenty teacher members and will hold eight afternoon meetings during the 11/12 school year. Members will be paid a stipend for their participation in the scheduled ECPLC meetings.

Objectives: 1.  To provide physical education curriculum training in basketball, hockey, and golf lessons from the district adopted physical education curriculum.   2.  Participants will gain knowledge on instructional strategies and tools that will enable them to teach these lessons.

(4th&5th Grade Teachers) Ecoliteracy at SFUSD: Celebrating Spring by Teaching in Nature- Taking FOSS Outdoors!
 Description
Workshop will explore strategies for elementary teachers to integrate their 'Green Schoolyards' into standards based science lessons.  Lessons will focus on using FOSS science kits in your green schoolyard.  3/7/2012: will be focused on K & 1 Teachers Lessons will cover:  Animals 2x2, Wood & Paper, and Plants and Animals.  3/14/2012 will focus on Grade 2&3 Teachers Lessons will include: Insects & Plants, Balance & Motion and Structures of Life 3/21/2012 will focus on Grades 4&5 Teachers Lessons will focus on Solid Earth, and Water Planet.  Teachers will receive two hours worth of UESF agreed upon extended hour compensation.  Light refreshments will be served. Please remember to bring your SFUSD employee ID number so we are able to pay you:)

English Learner Equity Centered Professional Learning Community
 Description
In this English Learner Equity Centered Professional Learning Community (ECPLC), ELSS Teachers on Special Assignment (TSAs) will partner with an invited team of 1-3 teachers from a school site to study and reflect on research and best practices related to our work with English Learners in one of the specific pathways: Biliteracy, Immersion or English Plus.   We will work with current research related to English Learners and ways to focus our efforts to greatly impact and improve academic achievement of the students we serve in relation to the rigor and expectations of the ELA California Common Core Standards (CCCS). This English Learner ECPLC will focus on reflecting on our classroom practices using theoretical knowledge, discussion, planning and action research related to ELD, SDAIE and/or primary language.

Ecoliteracy Teacher Survey: PreK-12 SFUSD Website for Teachers
 Description
 Looking for Prek-12 SFUSD Teacher feedback!  the new SFUSD 'Ecoliteracy' Program is looking to connect SFUSD teachers to the rich resources that exist in our community, and part of this program will be to host a website to link you to upcoming PD's, field trip opportunities, free presentations, all in a streamlined and organized fashion.  The website will targeting programs that highlight 'science, stewardship & sustainability'  programs that serve SFUSD Teachers.    Current site: www.sfecoliteracy.com   Looking to make improvements, and want your feedback. We would like to spend two hours, for which you will receive extended hour pay, for you to talk about your needs, blocks, and identify some websites that you believe are helpful, and useful. Light afternoon snacks and beverages will be available.  If interested, please RSVP with the OMS and required information.  You will receive an email confirmation that you have been accepted to attend.  We are looking for a cross section of PreK-12 teachers, so two teachers from each grade.  Thank you for your interest!
