Staff Wellness for Paraprofessionals (Part 2)
 Description
This workshop will show you how to apply simple wellness techniques to your busy day.  We will show you how food, yoga, and your daily life can impact your overall health.   Wear comfortable clothing.   We will move around a bit. By the end of the workshop, you will have: * tasted some whole grain foods, nutrient-dense produce, and healthy protein * practiced some easy to do yoga postures * tried some basic fitness activities * completed an action plan

WRITE’s integrated curriculum and assessment foster the development of academic writing and language and help prepare English learners and struggling students to write effectively and think critically in Spanish!  Learn and implement 3-4 genre based writing units per year.          *Specific dates have not been determined.

(K&1st Grade Teachers) Ecoliteracy at SFUSD: Celebrating Spring by Teaching in Nature- Taking FOSS Outdoors!
 Description
Workshop will explore strategies for elementary teachers to integrate their 'Green Schoolyards' into standards based science lessons.  Lessons will focus on using FOSS science kits in your green schoolyard. 3/7/2012: will be focused on K & 1 Teachers Lessons will cover:  Animals 2x2, Wood & Paper, and Plants and Animals.  3/14/2012 will focus on Grade 2&3 Teachers Lessons will include: Insects & Plants, Balance & Motion and Structures of Life 3/21/2012 will focus on Grades 4&5 Teachers Lessons will focus on Solid Earth, and Water Planet.  Teachers will receive two hours worth of UESF agreed upon extended hour compesation. Light refreshments will be served. Please remember to bring your SFUSD employee ID number so we are able to pay you:)

Pilot of 10th Grade College and Career Curriculum
 Description
To Principals, Counselors and English Department Chairs, This spring SFUSD will pilot a Plan Ahead Push-in Lesson for 10th Grade with selected English classes around the district. This one-week activity is designed as a structured writing and research activity to help students connect their interests to possible career options; it will be team-taught with the School Counselor!!   These week long lessons were written to supplement to Plan Ahead, the district's approved 9th grade course for the college and career elective.   Here is some information about the lessons:   •         Designed as one-week interdisciplinary activities for grades 10-12 meant to be taught in core classes   •         Offered this spring in English classes at selected sites   •         Intended to help students, teachers and counselors continue the conversation about college and career options and post-secondary success   Your presence is requested at the "10th grade Pilot kick-off" meeting on March 8, 2012 in the Multipurpose Room at 750 25th Avenue.  Light Refreshments will be served.

Saturday Speaker Series: Breakfast with Champions of Language and Literacy
 Description
The Saturday speakers will share their work and research in relation to the ELA Common Core Standards.  The ELSS EL ECLPLC will participate in 3 of 4 of the sessions and debrief after each session in order to discuss and name practical applications to our work with English Learners.

AB430 Module II Leadership & Management for Instructional Improvement
 Description
AB430 Administrator Credentialing Module II (Leadership & Management for Instructional Improvement) is now being offered to current SFUSD Administrators who need  their clear credentials by September 1, 2013. The workshops will be offered on January 21, 2012 , February 25, 2012 and March 10, 2012 at APD/Cabrillo to the first 24 participants who register via the OMS system. This module is 20 hours over 3 days. Areas of focus will be: School leadership, finance and HR; development of a school culture that addresses the needs of all students; data collection and analysis; alignment of funds to meet the goals of the Balanced Scorecard; and effective methods of evaluating, motivating and improving teacher performance. In addition there is a required 20 hour practicum to complete the module. All registration for the event will be paid by the APD/Cabrillo department. Attendance is mandatory for all three days. Do not register for the event if you are not available for all three sessions!!

SLANT Follow-Up #3: Reformatting
 Description
Teachers will examine how artists and scientists format and present ideas in order to create, understand or derive meaning from information. Teacher will work on formatting documentation of student work and projects. KQED who will lead us through editing, organizing and sharing that documentation. We will be meeting at the California Academy of Sciences and start promptly at 8:30am. Light breakfast and coffee will be provided and we’ll be finished for the day by 1pm. Teachers will be compensated at their UESF agreed upon extended hourly rate.   This will be our last follow-up before the May 9th release day when we’ll prepare for that evening’s Symposium at the deYoung museum.

SDAIE Content Area Strategies
 Description
All teachers of English Learners, regardless of subject, must focus on language development and utilized SDAIE strategies while teaching their content area.  You will learn strategies to teach students to read, write, and collaborate (listening and speaking) more effectively so they can better access content and demonstrate comprehension.
